One of the best parts of staying in the Valley of Fire campground was the ability to keep exploring. Even as the sun was setting and the park was closing, we were out and about. I am calling this section the Roadside Attractions – small jaunts to view interesting items very close to the road.
All of these sights can be found right off the main Valley of Fire highway, and all are well signed.

Petrified Log
As a kid, didn’t you think that petrified logs were going to be much more common? It was a thrill for me to find this one.

The Cabins
This was one of the best finds. We explored each and every cabin. Very interesting.

Critters

These were the fun things we got to explore along the Valley of Fire highway. While we came for the hiking and the views, these small side trips were definitely a highlight and well worth visiting.

Good call on visiting the popular roadside attractions at the end of the day when everyone had left. The cabins are pretty cool. The CCC has done amazing work at many of the national and state parks in the US. It’s too bad it ended. I got shivers just seeing your picture of that massive spider. I wouldn’t want to be camping in a tent either!
I actually got a video of that spider trucking through the campground, but it is gross!!! I get shivers just thinking about it.
I didn’t know about the CCC. Thank you for letting me know about their other work. Yes – too bad it ended!
Oh ew!! I don’t think tent camping in the southwest is in our future!! I don’t do well with bugs, especially big ones!
I know! Thankfully, this was the ONLY bug we saw, but still. A hard no to a tent. And we shook out our shoes pretty good after that 🙂
